These vibrating level switches are for level detection in bulk solids, VEGAVIB operates with a vibrating rod, VEGAWAVE with a tuning fork. The central component of both sensors is the piezo-driven active vibrating element, which when it is covered by bulk-solids, the oscillation amplitude changes. The change is detected and processed by the oscillator and converted into a switching command.
This measuring technique is not affected by changes in density, humidity or electrical properties of the product. They do not require adjustment with product on set up, and the active vibrating element means the switches will ‘fail-safe’ with heavy build up, probe damage or loss of power. These VEGA Vibrating switches are ideal for reliable high level or silo protection system applications.
VEGAWAVE with its tuning fork design, is an ideal solution for applications in powdery media and bulk solids of small grain size. The robust configuration also allows use as low-level detection in heavy bulk solids such as cement or flour. When build-up is likely, the VEGAWAVE sensors have advantages over the vibrating rod. VEGAWAVE works in bulk solids from a very light density of 0.008 g/cm³ (8 g/l). VEGAWAVE with ground level test facility can form the basis for a reliable high level or silo protection system with reliable fail safe design.
VEGAVIB is perfect for applications in larger grained substances, as the vibrating rod avoids product ‘jamming’ between the forks. The vibrating rod has particular advantages in the pharmaceutical and food industries– e.g. the polished version (surface finish Ra 0.8 µm) can be easily cleaned. Typical applications for VEGAVIB are overfill and dry run protection, e.g. in pellets, coarse bulk solids, even feathers, with reliability on bulk densities from 0.02 g/cm³ (20 g/l).
The switches have comprehensive fault monitoring up to SIL 2 (according to IEC 61508), and options for a remote ground level test, ATEX dust Ex areas and special design for detection of solids in water. Five different electronics outputs assure the right signal output for control system integration.
Low-cost versions of both can also be purchased online at www.vega-line.co.uk.
