Slurry Density Measurement

Posted on 27/03/08, under About VEGA, Aggregates & Mining, Bulk Solids Handling, Cement, Density, Nucleonics, VEGA Product News · RSS · No Comments

Interesting discussion going on over at the Control.com Forum:

The Slurry Density Measurement thread answering the question below:

“I would like to know if there are any as reliable instruments available as the Gamma meaurement instruments to determine slurry density. The slurry consists of fly ash (fine ash) and coarse ash from coal boilers and water. Average density varies from 1000 to 1500 kg/m3. I would like to do away with the radiation source to have a nuclear free

Here at VEGA, we are are loving it, as look what Walt Boyes, Editor in Chief of Control magazine had to say:

There are several suppliers of nuclear slurry density gauges that are available in the United States. The best of them, in my opinion, is Thermo (the old Texas Nuclear AND Kay-Ray brands), followed quickly by Ohmart-Vega (whose nuclear level gauges are better than Thermo’s) and Berthold Systems. ”

VEGA RADAR MEASUREMENT CHOICES – VEGAPULS68

VEGAPULS 68:

Through optimized radar technology, the sensor can process signals up to a thousand times smaller than those normally handled by conventional radar instruments. This high sensitivity enables measuring ranges up to 70 m even in products with poor reflective properties.

For the most demanding application conditions

VEGAPULS 68 delivers reliable level data even in high temperatures, such as e.g. in steel production. The dusty conditions in the coal processing facilities of power plants or in building materials storehouses do not bother VEGAPULS 68 in the least. The wide dynamic range of the sensor also opens up new possibilities in applications with powders and granulates in the food and chemical industries.

Example of a high temperature application:

Sensor version:  Horn antenna with nitrogen air purging connection

  • Non-contact measurement, maintenance-free
  • Uninfluenced by temperature
  • No malfunctions due to changing gas compositions
  • Independent of bulk solids surface geometry
  • Small sensor dimensions
  • Easy retrofitting
